Panoramic
Successful panoramic photography requires the photographer to have a good understanding of the effects of light – whether the rapidly changing natural lighting on location or the unpredictable effects of artificial lighting on indoor shoots: manual control of exposure is essential to ensure that individual images ‘stitch’ seamlessly together with a minimum of manipulation in Photoshop.
The photographer must also enjoy a sound working familiarity with his camera and lenses as well as any other specialised equipment designed for capturing panoramas such as a panoramic tripod head.
Finally, whilst the quality of each component image is vital, the computer and software used for post-production must be capable of processing stitched images often in excess of 25 000 pixels wide.
Fortunately these are all skills and equipment that I’ve acquired over the years, so panoramic photography is a natural extension of the services offered by Illuminate Studios.
Commissions have included the University of Bradford (prospective students were offered virtual tours of the campus on the university web site), the National Millennium Faith Exhibition (prospective visitors were able to preview the galleries online) and a local florist who wished to show prospective customers what effect could be achieved with £5000 worth of flowers around the altar in a small country church!
